The 3 days Bac Ha Trekking Tour starts either from Lao Cai or Sapa, taking
you to remote H’mong and Dzao villages of Bac Ha, Lao Cai province. This is one
of our hard treks we customize for experienced hikers. You will have the
opportunity to observe the local minority communities at work, tending their
fields in the shadow of the Chay river massif. The overnight stays in Bac Ha
will give you the chance to explore the villages and visit the local market.
From Bac Ha you can also visit the Can Cau market, crossing the Chay River by
boat to the Bao Nhai village, where a variety of local minority groups can be
found.
Day 1: Lao Cai – Bac Ha Market. Bac Ha Trekking (L, D)
Guide and driver pick up you at Lao Cai station then transfer to Bac Ha passing
the beautiful mountainous road. We’ll have ample time to explore the most
colorful market in Northwest of Vietnam where you can meet about 10 different
ethnic minorities, the place that people attend not only for trading but for
rice-wine drinking, making friends… In the afternoon we trek through some Tay
villages and visit Ban Pho village of Flower Hmong people. Dinner and overnight
at local home – homestay.
Day 2: Bac Ha Trekking (B,L,D)
The first portion of the trek, we spend about 1.5 hours uphill along trail path
to visit Flower H’Mong people and then we are waking along the large and rocky
path to the center of the neighboring commune. In a dry day, the group may leave
the main path at some sections to make short cut through thick rain forest.
Arrival to the top at noon and enjoy lunch break for an hour. In the afternoon,
we continue uphill along the large and rocky path to Quan Than San Village, on
the way you can visit and Explore village of local people. Arriving at the home
stay in a hamlet of the Flower Hmong at about 05.00 pm. Dinner and then relax.
Day 3: Trekking Bac Ha – Coc Ly Market – River boat trip – Lao Cai (B,L)
Breakfast and then transfer about 1.5 hour to Coc Ly Market, open only on
Tuesday. Arrive in the market place at about 09.30am, at crowded time of the
market. Join local ethnic peoples for about 2 hours of the morning to enjoy the
exciting atmosphere as well as activities of this weekly market. Walk from
section to sections, corner to corners, seeing and smelling of different local
product, spices, vegetable, farming tools, handicraft, even medicinal
herb…especially meeting smiling peoples every where. Coc Ly is also famous
cattle market where local farmers from villages in the region sell and by cows,
horses, water buffaloes, pigs…, and there is a large ground just beside the main
market place for this activity. The market is always crowded for the whole
morning and over after lunch time.
Leaving the market at noon, boarding a motor boat and cruising down stream the
Chay River for 1.5 hour to Trung Do village of the Tay which is beautifully set
on the bank of the river. Spend about an hour walking to explore this charming
village before continuing the boat trip briefly to Bao Nhai. Enjoy late lunch in
a local restaurant and then take 46 km road transfer back to Lao Cai station.
