Son La tours

Son La alone is home to 12 ethnic minority groups, notably Black Thai, White Thai, H'mong and Muong. You can distinguish each of these ethnic minorities from their traditional costumes, which are often colorful and go with a lot of accessories.

A stunning day of cycling through a region populated by the Black Thai mountain people. An early climb in wild rugged terrain gradually transforms into a meander through cultivated crops and friendly villages.

Late lunch in Son La City, the capital of Son La Province, before we visit The Old French Prison & Museum. It was once the site of a French penal colony where anticolonial revolutionaries were incarcerated. It was destroyed by the infamous “off-loading” of unused ammunition by US warplanes that were returning to their bases after bombing raids, but it has been partially restored.
